Trey Yesavage holds a meaningful pitching edge over Shane Baz — his ERA (3.65 vs 4.11) and WHIP (1.14 vs 1.35) are both notably superior, and Baz's 6-15 record reflects a rough season. Toronto's offense is hitting .257/.711 vs RHP, slightly better than Baltimore's .234/.711 against RHP, and the Blue Jays carry multiple hot bats (Okamoto, Lukes, Straw, Kirk) into this game. Baltimore has lost 3 straight and shows several cold hitters down the lineup. The -104 line on Toronto is near neutral value, making this a palatable lean on the better pitcher with the hotter offense.

Both starting pitchers have no available ERA, WHIP, or innings data for the 2026 season, making a pitching-based edge impossible to establish — and pitching is the dominant 40% factor. Detroit does carry genuine edges in team ERA (3.81 vs 4.52), RA/G (3.56 vs 3.97), and their L10 offense has been scorching (5.6 R/G last 10 games) with Greene and Torkelson red-hot. However, without knowing Herz's handedness or stats, we cannot properly cross-reference Washington's splits or assess the matchup. The pitching gate cannot be cleared with no data, so this is a pass despite Detroit's underlying quality.

This matchup is surprisingly even despite the records. Matthews (ERA 4.74, WHIP 1.24) and Tidwell (ERA 4.56, WHIP 1.20) are very close in quality, with Tidwell having a slight ERA edge but far fewer innings (53.1 vs 125.1), creating sample-size uncertainty. Minnesota's offense has cooled significantly (3.7 R/G in their last 10 games vs a 4.46 season average) and features several cold bats (Lewis, Jeffers, Kreidler). San Francisco is also struggling — 3-7 L10, 3-game losing streak — but their lineup hits .252/.732 vs RHP and Eldridge is hot. Both teams are well below .500 and neither presents a clean edge. No play is appropriate.
